What We Do

Hydro power generation plants

Hydro power is economically attractive, provides security of supply and has low levels of CO2 emissions. Flexible hydro power is key in an energy system with more and more wind and solar power. We are committed to hydro power and are open to growth options in Africa. Hydro power also functions as a balancing power, since capacity can be rapidly changed to compensate for differences in generation and consumption on the network. Hydro power has no fuel costs and competitive generation costs. Constructing a new power plant requires a substantial investment, but its economic life is long.

Lincoln W Energy builds, innovates, finances and streamlines hydro power plants with a view to a sustainable future power generation. We utilize the latest technology and optimization solutions; we optimize the equipment to raise the efficiency of existing units. We design, monitor and assure the quality of investments in both retrofits and new hydro power plants.

Solar power plants

Solar power already plays an essential role in the energy system, from small household installations to large-scale projects. In recent years the cost of solar panels has dropped significantly, and they are now among the cheapest forms of electricity generation. Due to decreasing costs and low CO2 emissions, volumes of solar panels will continue to grow in our core markets and around the world; contributing to an increasing proportion of future electrification.

Lincoln W Energy will do the project feasibility assessment, project management and construction and the operational services. Our core technologies include grid-connected, off-grid with battery storage and hybrid gensets.

We specialize in the design, supply, maintenance, finance and installation of commercial Solar PV systems, solar power and solar farms for increased energy production and efficiency. We work with utility companies, governments and businesses to meet their energy needs.

Gas power plants

Gas power plants, also known as natural gas power plants, use natural gas to generate electricity. They work by burning natural gas in a gas turbine, which spins a generator to produce electricity.

A combined-cycle power plant uses both a gas and a steam turbine together to produce up to 50% more electricity from the same fuel than a traditional simple-cycle plant. The waste heat from the gas turbine is routed to the nearby steam turbine, which generates extra power.

Wind Energy

Once called windmills, the technology used to harness the power of wind has advanced significantly over the past ten years, with the United States increasing its wind power capacity 30% year over year. Wind turbines, as they are now called, collect and convert the kinetic energy that wind produces into electricity to help power the grid.

Wind energy is actually a byproduct of the sun. The sun’s uneven heating of the atmosphere, the earth’s irregular surfaces (mountains and valleys), and the planet’s revolution around the sun all combine to create wind. Since wind is in plentiful supply, it’s a sustainable resource for as long as the sun’s rays heat the planet.

A group of wind turbines can make electricity for the utility grid. The electricity is sent through transmission and distribution lines to homes, businesses, schools, and so on.

Construction of power lines up to 400kV (overhead and underground)

We design and deliver on all aspects of power line work, from distribution to transmission voltages, all with the highest quality, safety and environmental standards. Our network specializes in overhead power lines up to 400kV and underground cables

From survey to complete foundation design; tower design/development to stringing; and fibre optic/optical ground wire (OPGW) work to full-type testing, we are guided by International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) standards and SANS 0280. Our complete turnkey solution for distribution-voltage structures extends to wood pole, steel monopole and concrete monopole structures; and for transmission voltage, we are skilled in steel lattice work.

Construction of substations from 11kV to 765kV

Our network has the largest high voltage substation construction network, with a capacity to construct substations from 11kV to 765kV. Our specialised engineers design, procure, construct and commission the following types of substations:

  • Conventional outdoor substations (AIS)
  • Gas-insulated substations (GIS)
  • Containerised mobile substations
  • Indoor cellular substations
  • 22kV-132kV Mobile substation skids for open-cast mining.

PDEX (Project Development and Execution)

Our project development and execution is among the best in Sub-Saharan Africa. PDEX is our project management arm with a focus on the development and execution of power infrastructure and capital projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Lincoln W Energy’s PDEX facilitates the dream of a rapid, fast growing, sustainable, skilled Sub-Saharan African industrial economy by maximizing the deployment of the latest technology in close cooperation with financiers, developers, and local communities.

The completion of the KIPP CCGT, Ghana 350MW gas power plant, costing $450 million and employing 1600 persons of which 10% expats is another example of a successful project development, execution and delivery
